Daily Scripture & Question:
Ecclesiastes 1:1-6:12 Ecclesiastes is the record of Solomon looking for the meaning of life.  He has the resources and power to try anything.  Probably written in his older years, he shares his folly and the lessons of wisdom he has learned (see 1:12-18).  Note the key refrains in chapters 3:9-15 and 5:18-20. Remember that "life under the sun" refers here to life here on earth without a relationship with God.  For Christians, we realize that we can also live life here under the Son as we submit to the lordship of Jesus Christ.

Family Devotions—Scripture & Questions:
Read Ecclesiastes 3:1-15. Why is life without God "vanity" (emptiness or a vapor)? How does a relationship with God, who is eternal, give us hope that life really does have meaning?

Biblical Prayer Focus:
Psalm 140:1-3 Deliver me, O LORD, from evil men; preserve me from violent men, who plan evil things in their heart and stir up wars continually. They make their tongue sharp as a serpent's, and under their lips is the venom of asps. Selah

Ask for God's protection, shielding you from those who would seek to hurt you by thoughts, actions, or words.
