Read II Samuel 1:1-16. Saul was David's enemy. Why then did David grieve over his death? Why did he have the Amalekite, who killed Saul, put to death? Are you tempted to be happy over the fall of someone who has been mean to you? What would God rather that you do?

Luke 21:34-36 But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap. For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.

Pray for the Lord's help in keeping watch, remembering the soon return of the Lord Jesus. Ask that He help you not to let your heart be weighed down with distractions. Seek His forgiveness if you have let the cares of life, or your attempts to escape the pain, choke out your faith.
