Daily Scripture & Questions:
I Kings 17:1-19:21  Our last two days of reading have set the stage for the events of Jehoshaphat in the South (Judah) and Ahab, the evil king of Israel (the Northern Kingdom).  This is the context for the famous ministry of Elijah.  After such great miracles and victories, why do you suppose Elijah fled into the wilderness?  What did God do for Elijah that allowed him to finish strong in the rest of his ministry?

Family Devotions—Scripture & Questions:
Read I Kings 18:20-40. Why did God have Elijah challenge all the so-called prophets of Baal (a so-called local god that the people worshiped instead of the true God)? What was Elijah's goal in all of this?

Biblical Prayer Focus:
Psalm 71:12-16 O God, be not far from me; O my God, make haste to help me! May my accusers be put to shame and consumed; with scorn and disgrace may they be covered who seek my hurt. But I will hope continually and will praise you yet more and more. My mouth will tell of your righteous acts, of your deeds of salvation all the day, for their number is past my knowledge. With the mighty deeds of the Lord GOD I will come; I will remind them of your righteousness, yours alone.

Pray that the Lord would help you recall His righteous acts and His promised presence with you. Ask Him to help you hope in Him more and more so that you can endure the hard things you are facing.
