Amos 1:1-5:27 Amos ministers to the Northern Kingdom of Israel before the death of Uzziah, the king of the Southern Kingdom of Judah in 739 BC.  The Northern Kingdom will fall and go into exile in 722 BC.  Amos speaks strongly against their sin and presumption.   Amos' oracle shows us that no one can escape the consequences of their actions, neither the nations around Israel (1:2-2:5) or Israel herself (2:6 ff).  List some of the key sins of the nations and then of Israel.   Are you ever guilty of not returning to the Lord when he is disciplining you (see 4:6, 8-11)?  Are we trampling the poor, allowing social injustice to prevail?  How is God calling us to let justice roll down like waters (5:24) in our land?

Psalm 116:12-14 What shall I render to the LORD for all his benefits to me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD, I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people.

Thank the LORD for all his benefits. Exalt Him for the great salvation He provides. Ask for faithfulness in following through with the promises you've made to Him.
